City Lit’s incredible Mental Wealth Festival returns from 10-15 October for its seventh year, with a programme packed with professionals, advocates, artists and opportunities to write, sing and join discussions around the topic of positive impact within the mental health sphere. The intention is to explore how we as a society adapt to the challenges and mental illness we may experience or live with.
This fantastic 5 day festival will unfold in multiple locations across London including City Lit, the British Museum and Royal Opera House. Tickets for in person and online events and talks start at just £5, and a number of talks are absolutely free to attend.
Workshops at the festival include: Dance for Wellbeing, Storytelling, Yoga Workshop in French or German, The Acting Room, Voice and Pilates, Unlocking Lockdown with Feldenkrais Method and Writing your Mental Health Story.
Speakers and hosts include singer-songwriter Melissa James, author of Listen Dr Kathryn Mannix, CEO of MIND Paul Farmer, Jonny Benjamin MBE and renowned artist and sculptor Antony Gormley
Singer-songwriter Melissa James invites singers – first-timers, nervous singers, pros and anyone else – to join her in singing Live Again with a group of others for the first time this year. The final part of the session will see the group performing Live Again in City Lit’s Café
A panel discussion on Self-Care and Wellbeing for Ethnically Diverse Women with Sandra Kerr and Carly Binger from Business in The Community (BITC)
Jonny Benjamin MBE, Steve Gilbert OBE FRSA, Louisa Rose and Abbie Mitchell discuss how they’ve found hope whilst living with their various mental health challenges.
Antony Gormley heads to the British Museum to discuss his life and career with City Lit Principal Mark Malcomson CBE. The discussion will focus on his commitment to sculpture as a focus for social and individual change, the connection between art, creativity and mental health and the benefits of art education and lifelong learning.
